Dream, Dream, Dream ...
Dreams transform into thoughts
And Thoughts result into actions.
Every child dreams. Every Child has a dream, a dream about the kind of
school, he/she would love to go to. A school, which he/she has always craved
to be in. And what better than making them pen down their imagination.
Oxygen took this initiative right in the month of April. As we, at Oxygen,
believe that every child, no matter, which background he comes from has a
right to quality education. We christened the event with the name 'Creative
Vision - Dream School 2008'.
Way back in April, we started approaching schools and convincing the
Principal to let his school participate in the event too. We contacted
altogether 60 schools of the city, both Private and Govt. schools. The 1st
phase of the very initiative was a preliminary round that was organized in
all the schools. For the Prelims, the schools were requested to shortlist
Top 50 students of their school. Those 50 students wrote about themselves,
their daydreams, their fiery ambitions, or where they saw themselves 5 or 10
years from now. Altogether 3000 entries from various schools of the city
were roped in. On the basis of their write ups, We shortlisted 250 finalists
who were given a chance to dream about their schools.
The finals were held on the 3rd of May, 2008. The venue was L N Mishra
Auditorium. The reporting time, though was 3:15, but the finalists,
enthusiastic enough had started coming by 2:45 itself. The afternoon started
with a welcome song by a young Oxygen leader, Rahul Bhardwaj, who literally
rocked the show, whenever he got a chance to do the needful. Then followed,
the inaugration, which was done by the young kids and the Convener of
Oxygen... a movement, Mr.Binod Singh. After the inaugration, Head
Coordinator and Event Director, Vijayeta Singh, briefed about the event and
introduced and welcomed the host of the day, a student who has been the
Horlicks Wiz Kid, one who has been selected to represent India in United
Nation's Children's Conference and also to represent India in Japan in
JENESYS summit, Sharad Vivek Sagar. The host took over and the writing
competition started soon after that. The students penned down their
imagination about their dream school. After the 45 minutes of allotted time
for writing on the given topic ' MY DREAM SCHOOL', students discussed too
about it for an hour in an open discussion. And then we had the exciting
finals in which the students who had made it to the FINAL 10, introduced
themselves, presented their idea of a dream school and also faced the
audience and judges' question.
The winners of the day were given the title of a leader as they were the
ones who were given the responsibility to take the movement forward and to
make education the biggest issue. Out of the 10 finalists, the 1st Leader,
Prachi from Notre Dame academy received a Scholarship of school fee of an
year, a cheque of Rs.10,000. The 2nd leader, Chitranshu Tewari from St.
Paul's School received a scholarship of school fee for 6 months, a cheque of
Rs.5,000 and the 3rd Leader Salil from Don Bosco Academy received a cheque
of Rs. 2,500, a scholarship of school fee for 3 months. The rest 7 leaders
received Rs. 1000 each.
